Trump: One or two more targets in Iran to be attacked

Nov 01, Kathmandu - U.S. President Donald Trump said most of Iran’s military capabilities had been destroyed, but that one or two targets remained—including a suspected nuclear site known as “Pickaxe Mountain.”

Speaking to reporters at his Florida residence on Saturday, Trump said negotiations with Iran to end the war, launched by the United States and Israel in late February, were moving in a positive direction. He added, however, that Iran could not be fully trusted.

Trump said the United States was in no hurry to launch further military action and claimed Iran’s military and nuclear programs had already suffered major damage.

“We’ve destroyed their nuclear capability,” he said. “There are one or two sites left to target, but we can do that in 10 minutes.”

Trump said Pickaxe Mountain should also be targeted. The site is suspected of housing an underground nuclear complex, though Iran says no nuclear activity is taking place there.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Saturday that Trump had made no decision on further strikes against Iran, adding that Washington also wanted to resolve the conflict through diplomacy.

Trump has suggested that military action could resume after the U.S. midterm elections. Those warnings came as Iran’s supreme leader cautioned the United States and Israel against launching new attacks. Trump has previously said he was considering whether to “fully defeat” Iran.
