Zelensky Urges Supporters to Keep Pressing for New U.S. Sanctions on Russia

Oct 17, Kathmandu - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged his supporters to continue calling for new U.S. sanctions against Russia, hours after President Donald Trump halted plans to advance sweeping measures targeting the Russian economy.

Calling the White House decision “unfortunate,” Zelensky warned that setting aside the Lindsey Graham bill could mean losing an opportunity to increase pressure on Moscow. He said he still hoped the sanctions could be implemented, adding that every voice supporting them mattered.

Meanwhile, Ukraine said Russia had launched heavy attacks on energy infrastructure in more than 15 locations across the country. Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia fired four cruise missiles and 332 drones overnight. Most of the missiles and 289 drones were intercepted, it said.

Ukrainian officials said Russia was intensifying such attacks as winter approaches, aiming to disrupt essential services including electricity, heating and water supplies.
