Oct 04, Kathmandu - An international medical workshop on microwave ablation, a minimally invasive treatment used for certain uterine conditions, has been held for the first time in Nepal at Bluecross Hospital in Kathmandu.
The workshop featured international microwave ablation expert Prof. Dr. Xiaoming Gong and Dr. Rangina Laikangbam, a specialist in hysteroscopic gynecological treatment and infertility.
Twenty doctors from Nepal and abroad took part, including 10 Nepali physicians. Other participants came from Bangladesh, India, the United Arab Emirates, Dubai and Myanmar, according to the hospital.
The training covered the principles and applications of microwave ablation, patient selection, treatment procedures, equipment use, safety precautions and practical considerations. It included both theoretical instruction and hands-on training.
Doctors noted that microwave ablation may be used for some uterine conditions, but treatment decisions depend on each patient’s condition, the nature of the disease and clinical assessment. They also stressed the importance of timely screening, diagnosis and treatment, as uterine conditions can affect women’s reproductive health.
Bluecross Hospital said workshops of this kind can help Nepali doctors gain practical knowledge of emerging treatments and strengthen international medical collaboration. It added that developing modern treatment options, infrastructure and skilled personnel could help address the need for patients to travel abroad for specialized care.
