Iran Says It Targeted at Least Seven Oil Tankers in Strait of Hormuz

Oct 04, Kathmandu - Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reports that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy targeted at least seven oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz over the past five days.

According to Fars, the IRGC targeted more than one tanker per day. The reported incidents come as U.S. President Donald Trump has said the strait is open and under U.S. control.

Citing independent military observer MenchOsint, Fars reported that two tankers were hit by explosions on Friday—one near the strait’s entrance and another while exiting.

MenchOsint said vessels affected over the previous four days included Kuwait’s Al Funtas and Kazimah-3, and the UAE’s Sinbad, Mersin Prosperity and Al Ruwais.

Xinhua reports that Iran has tightened its monitoring and control of the Strait of Hormuz since February 28. Tehran says it has barred safe passage for vessels linked to Israel or the United States, following joint attacks on Iranian territory.
