Sep 27, Kathmandu - Incessant rains, storms, floods, landslides and lightning have damaged electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure in various parts of the country. Due to the damage, electricity supply has been disrupted in some places, while the production of various hydropower projects has also been affected due to the floods.

Towers No. 21 and 22 have been damaged in the section from Dana in Myagdi to Kushma in Parbat under the Kaligandaki Corridor 220 kV transmission line. There has also been a problem in the transmission line of the Kushma-New Butwal section. This has affected the production of about 200 MW of electricity connected to the corridor.

Due to the floods, the production of hydropower projects including the 140 MW Kaligandaki, 25 MW Upper Madi, 44 MW Super Madi, 20 MW Namarjun Madi, 40 MW Seti River, 25 MW Upper Dordi, 50 MW Upper Marsyangdi, 70 MW Middle Marsyangdi, 69 MW Marsyangdi has been stopped.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has stated that the 220 kV, 132 kV, 33 kV and 11 kV transmission and distribution structures have also been damaged due to the floods and landslides.

According to NEA Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, technical and maintenance teams have been mobilized to the affected areas to collect details of the damage, identify the disrupted areas, supply electricity through alternative means and repair the damaged structures.

The NEA has stated that arrangements have been made to resume supply through alternative feeders and available transmission and distribution structures as far as possible in the places where the electricity supply has been disrupted. Shrestha said that the work of restoring supply will be accelerated by mobilizing additional technical teams and necessary equipment as soon as the roads and access roads are opened.

The NEA has urged consumers not to go near the damaged electrical structures, fallen wires and poles.
