Sep 22, Kathmandu - Prime Minister Balen Shah is set to leave for the United States this evening to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Leading a high-level Nepali delegation, PM Shah will represent Nepal in the international forum.

According to Prime Minister Shah's press secretary, Deepa Dahal, the Prime Minister is scheduled to depart from Tribhuvan International Airport at 7:00 pm aboard Qatar Airways. The Prime Minister's departure will be a simple affair, with no traditional send-off ceremony planned.

Historically, a contingent of the Nepali Army has saluted the Prime Minister at the airport during foreign visits. However, sources close to PM Shah indicate that this tradition will be skipped this time. This is Shah’s first overseas trip since assuming office.

In the past, parliamentary speakers, deputy speakers, and ministers would personally see off the Prime Minister at the airport, and formal farewell programs were held in the VIP lounge. This time, no such arrangements or ceremonies will take place, the sources added.

"There's no schedule for salutes or farewell ceremonies. Previously, there were traditional send-off programs, but this time, PM Shah will board the plane from the VIP lounge due to time constraints," the source said.

PM Shah will leave his residence in Baluwatar at 6:20 pm and is expected to fly out at 7:00 pm. Security agencies have been informed and are on alert.

Members of the Prime Minister’s delegation include Chief Advisor Kumar Banjankar, Chief Personal Secretary Suvas Sharma, Private Secretary Pradeep Puriar, and photographer Binay Shakya.

During the visit, Prime Minister Shah will address the high-level session of the UN General Assembly scheduled for Ashwin 8. The delegation will also include Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.

While in New York, PM Shah is also scheduled to meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He is expected to return to Nepal on September 10.
