Sep 07, Kathmandu - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed deep sorrow over the destructive floods and landslides that have caused extensive loss of life and property along the Nepal-Tibet border. Addressing the Australian Parliament, he reaffirmed Australia's commitment to support Nepal and the affected communities.

On Monday, Bhadra 22, Nepal observed a National Day of Mourning. During this solemn occasion, Albanese conveyed that Nepalese friends are not alone in their grief, assuring that Australia stands with the Nepali people in their time of need.

He praised the compassion and generosity shown by Australian citizens in response to the disaster. Albanese called on Australians to contribute openly to emergency relief funds, stand in solidarity with the affected families, and keep hope alive through prayers.

In observance of the National Day of Mourning, representatives from the Nepali, Tibetan, and Indian communities residing in Australia met with government officials, including the Governor, to express their sympathy.

During his address, Albanese confirmed that 36 Australian citizens remain unaccounted for following the disaster. He assured that the Australian government is actively working to locate these individuals and provide necessary support to their families.

Earlier, on Friday, Albanese spoke via telephone with Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah to convey his condolences for the tragedy afflicting Nepal.
