Aug 20, Kathmandu - Protests have erupted in Kathmandu’s Maitighar Mandala demanding justice for three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1, Bara, who was raped and murdered. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with independent youth groups organizing demonstrations to call for strict punishment for those involved.
Meanwhile, the road connecting Birgunj and Pathlaiya has been blocked for two days in protest against the child's murder. The ongoing demonstrations have resulted in the closure of community and institutional schools in Jitpur Simara, and hundreds of freight vehicles stranded on the Birgunj customs road for the past two days.
Local residents have criticized the police for failing to act promptly after the child's disappearance, alleging that timely information was not shared with Simara District Police, which hampered the search efforts. The protesters demand a leadership change in the Simara police station, citing negligence in coordinated efforts to locate the girl.
Despite the three-day search, police were unable to find the child, and the family filed a formal complaint against the suspects. The victim’s body was recovered on Tuesday evening, leading to the arrest of two teenagers from Jitpur Simara-2 by police.
