Aug 06, Kathmandu - Two soldiers were injured in a grenade explosion during a military training exercise in Kailali on Thursday morning. The incident occurred during a training session conducted by the Nepalese Army at Godawari Municipality-4, Bandevi, around 7:40 AM.

According to the District Police Office Kailali, Assistant Sergeant Bikram Karki, 30, and Soldier Ranjit Tharu, 20, sustained injuries from a plastic hand grenade explosion. Both injured soldiers were airlifted to Kathmandu by Nepal Army helicopter for further treatment. Police reported that their condition is moderate.

The explosion took place during a military drill at the 'Teghari Barrack' of the Devidal Battalion. Following initial treatment in Dhangadhi, they were transferred to Kathmandu for advanced medical care.

This incident echoes a tragic event earlier in the month, on Asar 11 (around July 25), when a grenade explosion during military practice in Chisapani, Kailali, resulted in the death of soldier Himal Bikram Bista. Coincidentally, that incident also occurred on a Thursday. During that event, another soldier, Himalraj Joshi, was injured and subsequently flown to Kathmandu for treatment.

The earlier accident took place in the Jalpa Community Forest area of Mohanyal Rural Municipality-7, during firing practice at the Faraging Range operated by the Faraging Battalion from Gorang, Chisapani.

The military training exercises are part of the ongoing efforts at the Faraging Training School in Gorang, which includes firing drills that occasionally involve explosive hazards.
