Government Intensifies Efforts to End Dr. Gobinda KC’s Hunger Strike, Sends Officials to Dialogue

Jul 25, Kathmandu - In line with Education Minister Sasmit Pokhrel’s directive, Education Secretary Chudamani Poudel has traveled to Dhangadhi to engage in talks with Dr. Gobinda KC, who is currently on a hunger strike. 

Following a telephone conversation between Minister Pokhrel and Dr. KC on Friday evening, the minister instructed the secretary to initiate dialogue. Additionally, sources from the ministry confirmed that tomorrow, Prime Minister’s health advisor Dr. J.P. Agrawal and the Health Secretary are scheduled to arrive in Dhangadhi to discuss with Dr. KC.

The government is accelerating its efforts to resolve the crisis through negotiations. 

Dr. KC’s health has deteriorated, and he is currently receiving treatment at Seti Regional Hospital, where he is in the ICU. 

The doctor, who has been protesting in Dhangadhi demanding the cancellation of appointments made at the Medical Education Commission and Geta Medical College (Dharanath Chand Health Sciences University), is seeking to highlight his demands.

Earlier on Friday evening, Dr. Amrit Jaisi, an associate of Dr. KC, confirmed a phone conversation with Education Minister Sasmit Pokhrel, during which the minister pledged to take initiatives to address Dr. KC’s demands.
