Jul 17, Kathmandu - The Nepal Teachers' Federation has voiced serious objections to the new song 'Masterni' by Durgesh Thapa and Priyanka Karki. The federation has strongly condemned the song, alleging it undermines the dignity and respect of teachers and the teaching profession. They have demanded an immediate halt to its public screening and called for the song not to be used in the accompanying film.
In a joint statement issued on Friday by President Laxmi Kishore Subedi and General Secretary Tula Bahadur Thapa, the federation expressed concern over promotional materials for the upcoming film 'Masterney,' which is being promoted through the song since Bhadra 5. They noted that the song contains inappropriate language targeting women teachers and conveys messages that could negatively impact the social standing of educators and the teaching community.
The federation urged the relevant parties to remove the song from public release and refrain from including it in the film. They warned that if the song continues to be used, the filmmakers and associated artists would bear responsibility for any resulting uncomfortable situations.
The film 'Masterni' features the song performed by singer Durgesh Thapa and actress Priyanka Karki. Since its release, the song has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some viewing it as entertainment, while others criticized its content for potentially harming the reputation of teachers and women educators.
