Jul 09, Kathmandu - Over 261,000 drivers in the Kathmandu Valley have been found to have failed to deposit their traffic penalty fines into the state treasury, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
Drivers who have not paid their fines will be barred from accessing various services provided by the Transport Management Office. This includes purchasing new vehicles, transferring vehicle ownership, renewing driver’s licenses, and other related services.
Traffic police have initiated a service suspension process based on the details submitted to the Transport Office after prolonged non-payment of fines. Police Deputy Superintendent Nareshraj Subedi stated that these services will remain inaccessible until the outstanding fines are settled.
The authorities have mandated that drivers must pay their traffic fines into the state treasury before availing of any services. The Transport Office has also begun sending SMS notifications to remind drivers of the pending payments.
This move aims to enhance the collection of traffic penalties, promote adherence to traffic rules, and foster a culture of road discipline. Officials believe that such measures will discourage traffic violations and ensure better compliance with traffic regulations.
Traffic police have urged drivers in the valley to fully comply with traffic laws and settle their fines promptly to avoid service disruptions.
