Sudurpashchim Province Presents Budget and Key Reports After 23 Days of Delay Amid Political Tensions

Jul 07, Kathmandu - The Sudurpashchim Provincial Assembly has tabled the upcoming fiscal year's budget and related bills after a delay of 23 days. The session, held today, saw Minister of Finance Vikram Singh Dhami present the budget and associated legislation before the assembly.

Minister Dhami introduced the annual revenue and expenditure estimates (budget), the financial bill aimed at implementing economic proposals, and the bill related to allocation and expenditure from the provincial reserve fund for services and operations.

Earlier, in the early hours of Asar 1, Minister Dhami announced a budget of NPR 37.7 billion. However, the budget has faced open opposition from ruling party members. The ruling UML has already decided to register amendments to the budget through the parliamentary party. Several members of the Nepali Congress, which leads the provincial government, are also opposed to the budget. The main opposition, the CPN (UML), has even held a press conference signaling plans to oppose the budget vigorously.

Additionally, during today’s brief five-minute session, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law Hira Sarki presented several important reports, including the eighth annual report of the Office of the Auditor General, the seventh annual reports of the Tharu Commission, Muslim Commission, and Madhesi Commission.
