Constitutional Council Meeting Scheduled to Fill Vacant Key Positions Amid Political Discussions

Jul 03, Kathmandu - The Constitutional Council has been summoned to meet this Friday evening, with the meeting scheduled to take place at 5:00 PM at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers' Office.

During the meeting, discussions are expected to focus on the recommendation for appointment to vacant constitutional positions, as informed by the main opposition leader and Congress Parliamentary Party Leader, Bhishma Raj Angdembe.

Currently, several key positions remain vacant across various constitutional bodies, including two seats on the Election Commission (including the Chairperson), one member on the National Human Rights Commission, and two positions on the Muslim Commission (including the Chairperson). Additionally, the National Inclusiveness Commission has two vacant positions—including the Chairperson—while the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has one vacancy.

Other vacant positions include two seats on the Tharu Commission (including the Chairperson), two on the Madhesi Commission (including the Chairperson), three on the National Natural Resources and Finance Commission (including the Chairperson), and one seat on the Women’s Commission.

The Constitutional Council comprises key constitutional figures, including the Prime Minister, Speaker of the House, Chairperson of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker, Chief Justice, and leaders of the main opposition parties.
