Jul 01, Kathmandu - International news agency Reuters reports that negotiations between Iran and the United States are ongoing in Doha, Qatar’s capital, this Wednesday. According to sources, the discussions are not direct talks but are being conducted through a technical "Track-2" dialogue.
Pakistan and Qatar are serving as mediators in this diplomatic effort. Given the recent escalation of regional tensions, these talks are considered diplomatically significant.
In preparation for the negotiations, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Beitkin and Jared Kusner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, arrived in Qatar on Tuesday. They also held separate meetings with Qatar’s Prime Minister. However, it is reported that they are not directly participating in the Wednesday negotiations.
The talks have gained importance amid heightened military tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway in the region.
Previously, on June 17, the U.S. and Iran reached a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Following that, on June 21, representatives from both countries held their first phase of peace talks in Switzerland.
However, recent tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides accusing each other of ceasefire violations, have strained bilateral relations once again. The ongoing negotiations in Doha are viewed as efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore dialogue.
