Heartbreaking Viral Video of Animal Cruelty Sparks Outrage in Nepal

Himalayan Region of Humla Under Scrutiny as Initial Investigation Points to Simkot Area

Jun 29, Kathmandu - A profoundly disturbing and inhumane video has gone viral on social media since Sunday, depicting the brutal killing of an innocent dog. The incident appears to have taken place in the Simkot area of Humla district.

The video’s scenes are extremely brutal. It shows a dog tied with a rope, hanging from a large rock on a hillside, with several individuals seen hitting the dog with stones from above. A child is also visible in the footage. Although other people are seen striking the dog, their faces are not visible. The video also features glimpses of Simkot Airport in the background, with a song titled "Janma Mrityu Sansarkai Reet Ho Saathi Aaja Amar Banaideu..." which means 'Birth and death are the rule of this world, my friend, make me immortal today' playing during the scenes.

The video was initially uploaded on TikTok by the account bibek.sunar790 at around 10:48 AM on Sunday. Just a few minutes later, at 10:54 AM, a follow-up video was posted from the same account, showing the dog’s lifeless body.

While the footage appears to be shot near Simkot Airport, local police authorities claim to be unaware of the incident. Junga Bahadur Gharti, an Assistant Sub-Inspector at the District Police Office in Humla, stated, “There have been no reports or information regarding this incident so far.” However, after the TikTok link was shared, Humla police confirmed that the video was indeed from Simkot.

Widespread Outrage on Social Media
The incident has triggered fierce outrage across social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok. Many users have called on the Nepal Police and animal rights activists to take swift action and arrest those responsible.

Laxmi Sudha Devkota wrote on Facebook, “Killing an animal with such cruelty is unforgivable. The perpetrators are nothing but wicked.” Similarly, Kushang Kushang condemned the act, stating, “A dog is a dog, but humans are animals,” criticizing the cruelty inflicted on the dog.

Users such as Milan Thapa and Raju Thapa Magar have urged the government to take strict legal action, emphasizing the need to strengthen laws against animal cruelty.

On TikTok, thousands expressed sympathy for the dog and hatred toward the perpetrators. User Suresh Ji commented, “This matter needs to go all the way to Parliament,” while many others expressed grief and questioned, “How can someone be so heartless?”

There is a strong public demand for law enforcement to investigate the video thoroughly and bring the offenders to justice.
