Government Expands Burn Treatment Services Across Nepal to Ensure Easy and Accessible Care

Jun 23, Kathmandu - The government has begun expanding specialized services across hospitals in the country to make burn treatment more accessible and efficient nationwide. As part of its 100-day government commitment, specialized units and wards for burn treatment are now operational in 14 federal and 4 provincial hospitals.

According to the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, 109 healthcare professionals have received basic training, while 217 others have undergone specialized burn treatment training. This initiative aims to enable the public to access primary burn care services at nearby hospitals, improving emergency response and treatment outcomes.

The ministry emphasized that due to the complexity of burn injuries, which often require plastic surgery and other advanced treatments, establishing dedicated units in well-equipped hospitals is more effective than setting up separate hospitals for burn care.

So far, dedicated burn treatment wards have been established at Kantipur Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Koshi Hospital, Narayani Hospital, Bharatpur Hospital, Dhangadhi Hospital, Bheri Hospital, the National Academy of Medical Sciences – Bir Hospital, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Patan Hospital, Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, and Raptadi Health Sciences Academy.
