Nepal Clinches Unbeaten Victory to Win Asian Games Men's Cricket Qualifier Title Amid Rain-Interrupted Final

Jun 08, Kathmandu - In a thrilling final at the Singapore National Cricket Ground, Nepal claimed the Asian Games men's cricket qualifying tournament title without losing a match, overcoming rain disruptions and prevailing by 19 runs under the DLS method.

Following a rain-affected match, Nepal was declared the winner after chasing Hong Kong’s target of 189 runs. Nepal had scored 114 runs for the loss of two wickets in 11.3 overs when rain halted play. As the rain persisted, the match was abandoned, and Nepal was awarded victory based on the DLS calculation.

Openers Kushal Bhurtel and Rohit Kumar Paudel starred for Nepal. Kushal scored the highest with 65 runs off 40 balls, smashing eight fours and three sixes. Rohit remained unbeaten on 35 runs. The duo shared a 63-run partnership for the second wicket.

Earlier, Hong Kong set a competitive total of 189 runs in 20 overs, losing seven wickets. Anshuman Rath led the charge with a remarkable 80 off 45 balls, including six sixes and six fours. Shahid Vasil contributed 55 runs off 28 balls, with seven fours and three sixes. Shivam Matur added 26 runs. Anshuman and Shivam shared an 84-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Nepal's bowling attack was led by Sher Malla, who took four wickets for 32 runs in four overs. Karan KC claimed two wickets, while Sandeep Lamichhane picked up one wicket.
