Jun 01, Kathmandu - Nepalese midfielder Preeti Rai has reached Goa to participate in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Championship.
Preeti traveled from Cambodia, passing through Singapore and Delhi before arriving in Goa. She was welcomed by team manager Suresh Shah.
Suresh Shah, also a spokesperson for the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), mentioned that Preeti will rest on Monday and will be fresh for the semi-finals. "Preeti has completed a long journey. She will rest today and will be fully refreshed for the semi-final match," he said.
Currently, Preeti is playing professional football for Cambodian club Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC. Due to the club not releasing her officially, she missed matches against Bhutan and Sri Lanka in the group stage.
The FIFA window for player transfers is only open from June 1 to June 9. Clubs are not obliged to release players outside this window, which is why Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng did not release Preeti earlier.
Nepal will face the defending champions Bangladesh in the semi-finals. The match is scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday.
