Modernizing Travel in Eastern Nepal: GPS, CCTV, and Online Ticketing Now in Use

May 31, Kathmandu - Most public transportation operating from Kathmandu to various destinations in eastern Nepal has now been equipped with CCTV cameras and GPS systems. Additionally, travelers can now purchase bus tickets online, enhancing safety and convenience.

While the government is preparing to mandate GPS and CCTV installations across all public transport nationwide, the Eastern Transport Management Private Limited has already implemented these systems on its vehicles.

According to the company’s Chairman, Rajendra Rokka, 81 public vehicles running from Kathmandu’s New Bus Park to different districts in eastern Nepal have been fitted with GPS and CCTV cameras. Since August 2080 BS, buses on the Kathmandu–Eastern route have been operated under a single management company.

Currently, the company provides regular services to destinations including Tehrathum, Taplejung, Khandbari, Kakkadvitta, Bhadrapur, Dharan, Biratnagar, Madhumalla, Gauriganj, Baniyani, Gaighat, Illam, Patanipath, Khatari, Janakpur, Rauthat, and Birgunj.

Company operator Rajendra Bahadur Thapa stated that the technology-driven service expansion aligns with government plans to improve passenger safety and service management.

He also mentioned that in the near future, all buses operated by the company will feature a ‘Luggage Tag’ system, which aims to make luggage management more secure and organized.

To further enhance passenger convenience, the company has introduced an online ticket booking service, allowing travelers to purchase tickets from the comfort of their homes for journeys to various destinations in eastern Nepal.
