Nepal Dominates China with Record-Breaking 221-Run Victory at Asian Games Cricket Qualifiers

May 30, Kathmandu - Nepal delivered a commanding performance against China, securing a massive 221-run victory in the Asian Games cricket qualifiers at the Singapore National Cricket Stadium. The match took place this morning, with Nepal asserting complete dominance over their opponents.

Chasing a formidable target of 314 runs set by Nepal, China could only manage 92 runs in 20 overs, falling short by a wide margin with four balls to spare. Nepali bowlers showcased exceptional skill, with Kushal Malla leading the charge by claiming 3 wickets in just 1.2 overs, including a maiden over. Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami picked up two wickets each, while Nandan Yadav contributed one.

For China, Shenjian Zheng was the top scorer with 31 runs. Other notable contributions included Du Jianyao's 17 runs and captain Tian Sen Qun's 12. However, the entire Chinese batting lineup struggled against relentless Nepali bowling.

Earlier in the day, Nepal won the toss and elected to bat first, posting an astonishing total of 313 runs in their 20 overs—a new record for Nepal in T20 international cricket. Opener Kushal Bhurtel set the tone with an explosive 129 runs off just 43 balls, including six consecutive sixes in the ninth over, marking him as only the second Nepali cricketer to achieve such a feat.

In addition to Bhurtel’s fireworks, other Nepali batters continued their aggressive assault. Skipper Rohit Paudel scored a rapid 69 runs off 21 balls, and Karan KC contributed 85 runs off 47 balls, helping Nepal set a daunting total that ultimately overwhelmed China.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Nepal as they advance confidently in the Asian Games cricket qualifiers.
