Suspect Arrested for Threatening to Set Temples and Monasteries on Fire in Nepal

May 29, Kathmandu - Police have apprehended Janak Pariyar, who had publicly threatened to set fire to temples and monasteries across Nepal.

Pariyar, a resident of Ward 12 in Aathbiskot Municipality, Rukum West, was detained in Tokha during a police operation. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pawan Bhattarai from Kathmandu District Police Office confirmed the arrest for further investigation.

The 27-year-old made alarming statements at a dialogue event in Anamnagar, vowing to set religious sites ablaze and warning of nationwide rebellion against perceived inequalities. 

Videos circulating on YouTube depict Pariyar claiming that Dalits have been subjected to inhumane treatment and that their condition in villages is deplorable. He resides in Baniyatara, Ward 8 of Tokha Municipality.
