Congress demands: Ruling to summon Prime Minister Balen Shah to the House

May 21, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, has urged the Speaker of Parliament to compel Prime Minister Balen Shah to appear in the house.

During an emergency session of the House today, Congress Whip Niskal Rai emphasized the importance of holding the Prime Minister accountable and ensuring his presence to uphold the dignity of the Parliament. Rai stated that until the Prime Minister and the government take responsibility towards the house, protests such as wearing blue scarves or displaying placards will continue, urging the Speaker and the government to address this issue promptly.

Rai also criticized the government for allegedly interfering with the separation of powers, claiming that the executive, legislature, and judiciary are all under undue influence. He pointed out that despite efforts to hold the government accountable in recent meetings, the Speaker's support has been lacking, and the government seems to be allergic to parliamentary proceedings.

This move marks a significant push by the opposition to restore parliamentary decorum and accountability in the current political climate.
