Tragic and Suspicious Death of Young Woman at Hotel in Bara's Nijgadh Sparks Investigation

May 09, Kathmandu - A young woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a hotel in Nijgadh, Bara district, on Friday night. The victim, 25-year-old Sita Theeng, was discovered unconscious at the Gurung Hotel in Nijgadh-9, Buddha Chowk, and was declared dead upon arrival at the local community hospital.

According to police sources, Sita Theeng, a resident of Nijgadh-12, had arrived at the hotel with three friends. CCTV footage shows them entering the hotel around 7:30 PM, consuming alcohol, and then going to separate rooms. Around 11 PM, Mahesh Maji, a 35-year-old from Tangiya Basti in Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-16, called Sita’s friend from another room. Sita was found attempting to hang herself in the bathroom, and Mahesh then left, claiming he was going to call an ambulance.

Mahesh reportedly took a motorcycle and fled the scene after leaving Sita unconscious. He also informed the hotel owner that he was going to get an ambulance for his injured friend. The other male friend accompanying Mahesh also fled after seeing Sita in an unconscious state. Sita's friends alerted the hotel management, who immediately contacted police.

Police officials, led by Inspector Jivan Lamichhane of the Nijgadh District Police Office, arrived at the scene along with senior police officials. The victim’s friend provided a statement to police, which launched an investigation. Search efforts for Mahesh continue, and he was eventually apprehended from his relative's house in Tangiya Basti at 4 AM. Two other suspects, including the male friend who fled, were also detained.

Sita’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police have stated that the autopsy report will clarify the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
