Congress Leader Sangraula's Anger Over Chief Justice Recommendation Controversy

May 08, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress Deputy General Secretary Dila Sangraula has condemned the government's recommendation process for the appointment of the Chief Justice.

Breaking tradition by recommending a fourth-ranking judge despite established seniority norms, Sangraula described the move as a "blow to the rule of law." Through social media, she labeled the decision of the Constitutional Council led by Balendra Shah as "an extreme form of authoritarianism."

Sangraula argued that attempting to influence or manipulate the judiciary contradicts the principles of the Constitution and the doctrine of separation of powers. She emphasized that any effort to establish a 'setting' culture within the judiciary is unacceptable.

She also called for unity among all stakeholders to protect the independence and dignity of the judiciary, asserting that opposition to the council's decision is crucial. The appointment controversy has sparked intense debate in political and legal circles in recent days.
