Brave Woman Honored by Nepal Police for Courageous Resistance During Robbery Attempt

May 07, Kathmandu - A woman who courageously resisted during a robbery attempt and assisted police has been officially honored by the Nepal Police.

The Inspector General of Police, Daan Bahadur Karki, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Sanjita Shakya, a resident of Ward 22, Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Ms. Shakya is employed at Naina And Ishan Jewellers located on Tuchhenani Street, Ward 24, Kathmandu.

According to police reports, on Baisakh 17th, during the afternoon, two individuals attempted to rob the jewelry store by brandishing firearms. Despite the perilous situation, Ms. Shakya bravely fought back and helped in controlling the incident. Thanks to her quick actions, police were able to apprehend three suspects involved in the attempted robbery.

At a ceremony held at the Nepal Police Headquarters on Thursday, IG Karki praised Ms. Shakya’s courage, sense of responsibility, and active citizenship. He emphasized that such cooperation between civilians and law enforcement plays a vital role in crime prevention and investigation.

Senior police officials, including Additional Inspector Generals and the Central Police Spokesperson, were also present at the event.

Ms. Shakya shared her experience during the incident, highlighting how her prompt provision of suspect descriptions and CCTV footage facilitated the investigation process.

Nepal Police expressed that her bravery not only prevented a potentially major criminal act but also sent a positive message of awareness and resistance against crime within society.
