May 03, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation has commenced a comprehensive verification process of landless settlers using the Land Record Information Management System. The initiative aims to identify genuine settlers by cross-checking their claims against government land records across the country.
Secretary and spokesperson Ganesh Prasad Bhatta explained that the system is being used to verify whether the names of claimed settlers are registered in any land records nationwide. The process is being carried out transparently, efficiently, and in accordance with various policies, regulations, and electronic methods to ensure cost-effectiveness.
Currently, the verification is underway within the Kathmandu Valley, following directives from the Ministry of Urban Development. Bhatta added that, subsequently, the identification process will be extended gradually nationwide. Once verified, the government anticipates smoother management and settlement of genuine landless settlers.
The Ministry oversees 110 land registry offices and 21 land reform and land registry offices across the country. It has also contacted 753 local levels to gather information on necessary human resources, technical skills, technology, and other resources required to deliver land-related services effectively.
In prioritized areas, the Ministry plans to conduct training, skill development programs, and hand over responsibilities to local governments. Bhatta assured that the Ministry would provide support and coordination to local levels capable of managing land administration, emphasizing that local governments taking charge will facilitate easier geographical verification and swift public service delivery.
