50 Squatters Evicted from Balkhu and Bansighat give Details

May 01, Kathmandu - More than 50 families displaced from squatter settlements in Balkhu and Bansighat have reached the Dashrath Stadium by Friday afternoon. These families, citing lack of homes, land, ancestral property, and minimal income sources, have registered their details with authorities.

A joint team comprising the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, Baghmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police is collecting their information.

Following the registration, the families will undergo health check-ups and psychological counseling before being transferred to designated ‘holding centers.’ Preparations are underway to relocate them to facilities in Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kavre — including the Tewa Office and residence in Dhapakhel, the Electricity Training Center in Kharibati, the Agricultural Development Bank Training Center in Boddha, the Water Supply Training Center in Naya Baneshwor, the Vegetable Market Management Center in Chobhar, and the Kavre Holding Center.

Machakaji Maharjan, Project Director of the Baghmati Civilization Integrated Committee, stated that the families' details are being compiled and arrangements are being made to send them to the designated holding centers.
