Apr 27, Kathmandu - Kathmandu Metropolitan City has intensified its campaign to remove illegal structures along riverbanks, successfully demolishing concrete houses in the squatters' settlement of Gairigau in Tripureshwor.
Last Saturday, the municipality reached Gairigau and dismantled temporary huts in the settlement, leaving the permanent structures intact. Continuing this effort, today (Monday), the remaining solid houses were completely razed using a bulldozer.
Earlier, the city had also cleared unauthorized settlements along the Bagmati River in Thapathali and Mahanagara areas on Saturday. This initiative aims to eliminate encroachments on river floodplains and public land, enhancing urban beautification and reducing flood risks.
