Mid-hill Highway Blocked due to Rainfall

Apr 26, Kathmandu - A heavy rainfall on Saturday evening has caused significant disruptions in Rukum East, blocking the Mid-Hill Highway and cutting off electricity services in the region.

According to Assistant Inspector Bir Bahadur Thapa of the Traffic Police Office, numerous landslides accompanied by boulders have occurred across several locations along the highway, including Dhaulapahira, Khadabagar, Kimubot, Suntalabari, Saipatung, Kakri, and Sita. Two other sites in Murka have also experienced landslides, leading to the closure of nearby roads.

Thapa further stated that efforts are underway in coordination with the Barewa Rural Municipality's excavator to clear the debris. However, he warned travelers to avoid non-essential journeys as road conditions remain hazardous due to ongoing adverse weather.

In addition to the roadblock, electricity services have been interrupted since around 6:00 PM Saturday evening. The heavy rains and associated landslides have also caused damage to wheat crops in the area, compounding the region's challenges.

Authorities urge residents and travelers to exercise caution and remain updated on weather conditions.
