Apr 24, Kathmandu - Hospitals and health service providers are no longer required to display physical health insurance cards when providing treatment to patients. The Health Insurance Board announced on Friday that insured individuals can now access services by scanning a QR code.
According to the board, to facilitate ease for insured individuals, all service providers are instructed to accept insurance cards through digital platforms such as the Citizen App and HIB Profile, among others. Patients who do not carry their physical insurance cards can now scan the QR code generated from their digital cards to receive treatment.
Regarding this initiative, the board stated that a decision was already made during a meeting held on Falgun 24, 2080, and a circular had been issued. However, after reports that some health institutions were not implementing the system, the board has issued strict instructions for its enforcement. A notice signed by Senior Medical Superintendent Dr. Pawan Kumar Sah urges all health service providers to implement this arrangement as a mandatory requirement.
