Apr 24, Kathmandu - Sambhav Sirohiya, the Managing Director of Kantipur Media Group, has resigned from his position. He informed employees through internal communication that he stepped down from his responsibilities effective Thursday.
He cited recent dissatisfaction with the organization's published content, particularly articles related to former Home Minister Sudan Gurung, as the reason for his decision. According to him, presenting unverified information in an exaggerated manner contradicts journalistic principles.
“I cannot associate my name with journalism that I do not endorse,” he stated in his message. The articles in question were published citing sources from investigative agencies, raising certain questions and suspicions. However, Sirohiya argued that publishing such topics without sufficient verification could impose unnecessary pressure on the new government.
Earlier on Thursday morning, he shared excerpts of these articles on social media, commenting, “This appears to be purposeful journalism, but its background is unclear.” Reflecting on his tenure, he mentioned that although the organization's financial condition was weak when he took charge, recent efforts have aimed at improvement. He expressed gratitude to the entire team that contributed to these efforts.
Sirohiya, who assumed leadership on Ashwin 1, 2080 BS, had recently taken steps to appoint trusted individuals to key positions within the organization and to make significant investments. His resignation amidst these changes has sparked further debate regarding the organization's internal state and editorial practices.
