Nepal Secures Thrilling Win Over Rwanda in ICC Women's Challenge Trophy

Apr 23, Kathmandu - Nepal made a remarkable comeback in the ICC Women's Challenge Trophy, clinching their second victory with a nail-biting win against host Rwanda on Wednesday.

In a tense match, Nepal chased down a modest target of 89 runs in the final over, winning by 2 wickets. The victory takes Nepal’s total to 4 points from three matches, leveling with Rwanda and Italy, who also have 4 points each. After losing their opening game to the USA, Nepal rebounded with a win against Italy before this dramatic victory.

Nepal’s chase was thrilling and dramatic, requiring only 15 runs in the last few overs. Nepal lost 8 wickets in the process, adding to the excitement. Opener Sneha Khadka and vice-captain Bindu Rawal laid a solid foundation with a 51-run partnership. Rawal contributed 10 runs before falling, while Sneha Khadka scored 48 runs and was named Player of the Match.

At 74 runs for 2 wickets in 12.4 overs, Nepal needed just 15 runs, but the match took a tense turn as they lost 6 wickets in quick succession. Captain Indu Barman was run out for 1, and Kabita Kunwar was dismissed without scoring. The team was 79 runs for 4 wickets at that point.

Despite setbacks, Rachana Chaudhary guided Nepal to victory with a crucial unbeaten 3 runs. Riya Sharma faced no ball and remained not out. Rwanda’s bowling was led by Geovanis Uwase, who took 3 wickets, while Gisele Ishimwe and Henriette Ishimwe shared 2 wickets each.

Earlier, Rwanda, winning the toss and opting to bat first, was all out for 88 runs in 19.4 overs.
