Apr 23, Kathmandu - To strengthen policy and technical leadership, the Ministry of Health and Population, led by Nisha Mehta, has decided to appoint Professor Dr. Manohar Pradhan as Chief Senior Advisor. The Rastriya Swatantra Party recommended him for the position, prompting the government to initiate the formal appointment process. According to sources within the ministry, Dr. Pradhan is set to receive an appointment letter as an unpaid senior advisory expert.
With decades of experience in medicine and academia, Dr. Pradhan is expected to positively influence the ministry’s policymaking and operational effectiveness. Based in Chitwan, he has been actively involved in the healthcare and education sectors for the past 18 years, serving at the College of Medical Sciences, Bharatpur. His contributions to medical education, including research, student development, and healthcare services, are highly regarded.
A trusted professional, Dr. Pradhan has been elected twice as a member of the Nepal Medical Council and has also served as Vice President of the Nepal Medical Association’s Chitwan branch. His extensive involvement across various levels of the health sector offers him valuable experience in policy formulation and implementation. Currently, he is serving as the Coordinator for the Health and Population Department of the Baghmati Province chapter of the RSP.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pradhan has emphasized the importance of policy reforms, service expansion, and quality improvement to enhance Nepal’s healthcare system. He advocates for scientific approaches and practical strategies to bring about meaningful change. A ministry official noted, “His experience and professionalism are expected to make the ministry’s policy-making process more effective.”
His role is anticipated to be crucial in health service improvement, human resource management, and long-term health strategy development. The government’s recent focus on health sector reforms, involving experienced experts in policymaking, underscores the significance of his appointment.
