Nepal's Arjun Kulung Rai Wins 6th Manjushree Trail Race, Sets New Records

Apr 21, Kathmandu - Nepal’s renowned Manjushree Trail Race (MTR) celebrated its sixth edition with Nepali athlete Arjun Kuling Rai defending his title and emerging victorious once again. Arjun completed the main 100-mile race in an impressive time of 26 hours, 37 minutes, and 49 seconds, setting a new record.

In the men's category, Nepalese athlete Milan Kuling Rai secured second place with a time of 27 hours, 5 minutes, and 18 seconds. He was also the runner-up in the previous edition. Bjay Ranamagar of Nepal finished third with a time of 28 hours, 25 minutes, and 17 seconds.

On the women's front, Nepalese athlete Aang Phurba Sherpa claimed victory in the 100-mile race, finishing in 33 hours, 13 minutes, and 6 seconds. New Zealand's Annie Mai Ban and Nepal's Anita Rai finished second and third, clocking 33 hours, 51 minutes, and 41 seconds, and 38 hours, 18 minutes, and 23 seconds, respectively.

In the 80 km men's race, Nepalese athletes dominated the podium, with Suryaraj Rai finishing first in 13 hours, 19 minutes, and 54 seconds. Dawa Tamang and Harendra Kumar Chaudhary secured second and third places with times of 13 hours, 20 minutes, and 15 seconds, and 15 hours, 23 minutes, and 33 seconds, respectively.

In the women's 80 km race, Indian athlete Dakahi Kyndait finished first in 19 hours, 22 minutes, and 16 seconds. Another Indian athlete and Alexandra Wrigley from the UK finished second and third.

In the 50 km races, Nepalese athletes continued their dominance. Gopal Tamang finished first in 6 hours, 30 minutes, and 17 seconds; Homlal Shrestha was second in 6 hours, 32 minutes, and 21 seconds; and Man Kumar Roka Magar finished third.

Nepalese women also excelled in the 50 km race, with Sunsari’s Rokaya taking first place in 7 hours, 53 minutes, and 46 seconds, followed by Rajyalaxmi Rawal and Kalpana Budha.

In the 20 km category, Nepalese men claimed the top three spots, with Bishal Bahadur Tamang, Deepak Tamang, and Pasang Tamang finishing first, second, and third. Women’s top three included Mary Egan, Tua, and Johannesburg Rimar.

In the 10 km races, Suhan Tamang, Bishal Tamang, and Saugat R.C. led the men's division, while Karsel Lama, Anna Lena, and another athlete topped the women’s category.

The sixth Manjushree Trail Race started on Baishakh 4 from Pataleban, circumnavigating the Kathmandu Valley, and concluded at Pataleban on Baishakh 6. Other categories, including 80 km, 50 km, 20 km, and 10 km, began from Narkot, Godawari, Pharping, and Pataleban, respectively.

Over 600 participants from 30 countries competed in this challenging race. The next edition is scheduled for March 5–7, 2027.
