Apr 19, Kathmandu - A Nepali woman pursuing her studies in the United States has tragically taken her own life. Pramila Tripathi Bhurtel, who had been in America for the past five years, was found deceased in San Francisco, according to the Nepali Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) California chapter.
Pramila, living in San Francisco, was reportedly battling significant financial hardships and caring for her young child. The community expresses deep sorrow over her untimely death, with many pointing to her difficult circumstances as a possible cause.
NRNA California expressed their sorrow, stating, “We share the heartbreaking news of Pramila’s tragic passing. She fought hard for a better future but was found dead in San Francisco.”
Details about her husband’s whereabouts remain unknown. She was raising her child alone, and the community is now concerned about her child's future and the financial difficulties faced by her family. Nepali residents in California have initiated fundraising efforts to support her child’s upbringing and cover funeral expenses.
Yuvraj Karki, CEO of Everest Business Roadmap in California, confirmed the incident and urged Nepali parents to be cautious when sending their children abroad. Pramila, who completed her Plus Two education in Nepal before moving to the U.S., was unable to complete her university studies and faced mental health challenges.
The California-based NRN California is actively seeking support to cover funeral and memorial costs, as well as immediate financial aid for her child and family. Attempts to reach the Nepali Consulate in San Francisco were unsuccessful, and her official address in Nepal remains unknown.
