Apr 17, Kathmandu - Out of the 49 individuals who lost their lives during the Gen-Z protest in late Bhadra, 42 families have officially filed complaints with the police, revealing ongoing efforts to seek justice. The protests, held on Bhadra 23 and 24, resulted in tragic deaths, sparking widespread concern across the nation.
The family members of the deceased submitted their complaints to the Kathmandu District Police Office in Bhadra. Meanwhile, seven of the victims have yet to be identified; their DNA tests are currently in progress, according to Kathmandu Police SP Pawan Bhattarai.
It has also been disclosed that the District Government Attorney's Office in Kathmandu has decided to record the complaints in a memorial book on Ashwin 27. However, SP Bhattarai clarified that the complaints, initially filed by the families, were re-admitted based on recommendations from an inquiry commission established to investigate the incident, set up following the government decision made by the then-Balen Shah-led administration in Chaitra.
Among the 42 complaints, one was reopened and led to the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Chaitra 14. Both have been released on bail, and police have launched investigations into their roles. Authorities are collecting evidence, including videos, photographs, and eyewitness testimonies, to build their case.
