Apr 11, Kathmandu - CPN-UML Secretary General Shankar Pokhrel has criticized Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, asserting that he does not see the Prime Minister as accountable to the people. Speaking at a program organized at the UML party office in Chasal on Saturday, Pokhrel highlighted concerns over the Prime Minister’s silence in Parliament, which he says raises questions about democratic accountability.
"Since the Prime Minister, elected by the people’s parliament, does not speak in Parliament, it signals an autocratic style of governance where the people's sovereignty is undermined," Pokhrel stated.
He also accused UML and its leadership of engaging in corrupt practices and creating narratives that discredit the party. According to Pokhrel, voting for new leadership rather than old parties is essential for establishing good governance and accelerating development. He emphasized that distrust in traditional parties and leaders stems from skepticism about their intentions.
Pokhrel further alleged that leaders claiming to promote good governance have failed to uphold transparency, especially regarding asset disclosures. He criticized interim government ministers for not disclosing their wealth and accused current ministers of delaying the submission of their asset details.
The UML leader also raised concerns over the credibility of the Speaker of Parliament’s asset declaration, stating that many find it difficult to trust the disclosures. He concluded by asserting that those who are committed to democracy and safeguarding Nepal's political stability are under attack by those seeking power for personal gain.
