Apr 11, Kathmandu - Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and ongoing disagreements over Iran’s nuclear program, high-level diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States have commenced in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. According to diplomatic sources, representatives from both nations are engaged in discreet negotiations aimed at reducing recent conflicts, lifting sanctions, and addressing concerns related to Iran’s nuclear activities.
Although conducted in secrecy, Pakistan has signaled its role as a regional mediator to promote stability. The talks primarily focus on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the economic sanctions imposed by the US, and military developments across the Middle East.
Sources reveal that Iran is seeking sanctions relief, while the US insists on transparency and limits on Iran’s nuclear pursuits. A significant challenge remains the mutual lack of trust, complicating the path toward an agreement.
Previous negotiations facilitated by countries like Oman and Qatar have paved the way, but this is the first such dialogue to take place in Islamabad, indicating increased diplomatic activity in South Asia.
Experts suggest that if successful, these talks could lead to a reduction in military tensions in the Middle East, stabilize oil markets, and ease global geopolitical tensions. However, it remains uncertain how soon any concrete agreements might be reached.
