Internal war rages in UML: Badal's attack threatens Oli's power

Apr 11, Kathmandu - Intense internal strife has surfaced within the CPN (UML) recently.

Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' has launched a targeted attack within the party, raising the issue of 'rightists' and 'enemies inside and outside' in his statement given in Kaski, which seems to be aimed at Vice Chairman Bishnu Poudel.

Leaders including Poudel, Yogesh Bhattarai and Surendra Pandey have strongly objected to Badal's statement in his capacity as the party leader in parliament.

The secretariat meeting held thereafter had to clarify the matter, but Badal claimed that he spoke in accordance with the party line and instead accused it of creating 'confusion'.

This controversy has made the ideological conflict within the UML even clearer.

Pandey has reiterated that the 'people's war' style of rhetoric cannot be the official line of the UML and that 'people's multi-party democracy' is the party's main path.

Meanwhile, Bhattarai has criticized Badal's statement through a satirical poem.

This dispute has been seen as the biggest internal conflict in recent years in the KP Sharma Oli-led party.

Dissatisfaction within the party is increasing, especially due to poor performance in the recent elections and dissatisfaction with the leadership.

In Oli's absence, competition has been seen between the Shankar Pokharel and Bishnu Poudel groups within the establishment group, while the establishment is accused of advancing Badal according to its strategy.

Meanwhile, the dissatisfied party has also launched a signature campaign demanding a special general convention.

Surendra Pandey has further intensified the debate on a leadership change, stating that party reorganization is necessary.
