Apr 07, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to deport 20 women from Uganda, banning their re-entry into Nepal for one year. The women, who were apprehended in the Thamel area, are being expelled following a series of misconduct incidents that disturbed tourists and locals alike.
According to officials from the Department of Immigration, the women are in the process of being deported, with some already having left after purchasing tickets. An immigration officer stated, “Some have already departed; others will be deported once they acquire tickets.”
The women were detained by police after reports of inappropriate behavior, including lewd conduct and harassment of tourists and pedestrians in public areas of Thamel. Authorities revealed that the women engaged in immoral activities, blocking pathways and harassing male tourists and locals with obscene gestures and language.
When police attempted to counsel them, the women responded with foul language, leading to their arrest on charges of misconduct. Following legal procedures, Kathmandu District Administration ordered the women to be released on a bond of 700 rupees each. Subsequently, they were transferred to the Immigration Office in Kalikasthan for deportation procedures.
The decision aims to maintain public order and protect tourists from inappropriate conduct in popular tourist destinations.
