Education Ministry Orders Schools to Halt Pre-Admission Fees Before New Academic Session Begins

Apr 07, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has issued strict directives to prevent schools from accepting student enrollments and collecting fees before the start of the new academic session.

In a circular sent to local levels, the ministry has instructed authorities to closely monitor and take action against schools that violate these guidelines by enrolling students prematurely and charging fees unlawfully.

The move comes in response to complaints that some private and community schools have been enrolling students and collecting advance fees before the commencement of the academic year.

According to Chapter 15 of the Education Regulations 2059, student enrollment is not permitted before the start of the new session, and strict adherence to this rule has been emphasized.

The ministry has also expressed concern over schools collecting fees beyond approved titles, charging higher amounts than permitted, or repeatedly collecting enrollment fees from the same students.

Additionally, the ministry has directed that any illegally collected advance fees must be refunded immediately.
