Police Refuse to Release Oli-Lekhak Immediately

Apr 02, Kathmandu - Former Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, along with former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, are reportedly set to have their detention extended for the second time.

Both officials were detained on Saturday, Chaitra 24, and the police initially granted a five-day extension on Sunday, March 26, which is set to expire this Thursday, Chaitra 19.

Kathmandu District Police Chief SP Pawan Bhattarai announced today that preparations are underway to seek further extension from the court.

Ramesh Lekhak will be presented in court for the extension, while KP Sharma Oli will participate virtually due to health issues. Oli is currently admitted to Maharajgunj Teaching Hospital with kidney-related problems. During the first extension, Lekhak appeared in court, and Oli attended virtually.

Lekhak's statement has been ongoing since Saturday, but Oli's statement has yet to be recorded.

The commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki had recommended action against both officials for allegedly instructing police forces to use force during the Ganja protest on Bhadra 23-24.
