16 Officials Arrested for Unlawful Vehicle Registration Book Reinforcement in Kathmandu

Mar 31, Kathmandu - A total of 16 individuals have been arrested across various transportation offices in Kathmandu for their involvement in unlawfully extorting service seekers under the pretext of renewing vehicle registration books (Bill Books).

The police action was launched after reports emerged that these officials were obstructing public service delivery by demanding illegal payments for vehicle registration book renewals. Acting on credible information, law enforcement teams conducted raids and apprehended the suspects, confiscating NPR 122,000 in cash and 53 Bill Books.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Circle arrested eight individuals from the transport office in Sano Baryang, Swoyambhu, and another eight from the transport office in Gurjudhara, Thapathali, under the suspicion of involvement in the racket.

Authorities have vowed to continue cracking down on such corrupt practices to ensure transparent and hassle-free services for the public.
