Tibetan Government-in-exile Congratulates Prime Minister Shah

Mar 29, Kathmandu - Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the Chief Leader of the Tibetan Exile Government, has extended his congratulations and best wishes to Nepal’s newly elected Prime Minister Balen Shah. The message was sent on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan community.

In his congratulatory message, Sikyong Penpa Tsering stated, “Your rise as the youngest Prime Minister following the recent Z-generation-led movement symbolizes a powerful aspiration for the people of Nepal, especially the youth.”

He further highlighted the deep-rooted historical and spiritual ties between Nepal and Tibet, emphasizing the Tibetan community in Nepal that has been residing there since Tibet’s forced annexation. “The Tibetan community in Nepal, which has preserved its Tibetan identity while contributing significantly to Nepal’s social and economic fabric, has strengthened these bonds. This has been possible thanks to the generous hospitality of the Nepali government and people, for which we are profoundly grateful,” he added.

Concluding his message, Tsering expressed his hopes for continued friendship and progress: “Please accept my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes. I wish you success in this pivotal moment in Nepal’s history. Under your leadership, I believe the friendship between our peoples will grow stronger, and I hope Nepal continues to advance towards prosperity, development, and positive change.”

Currently, Penpa Tsering is in Dharamsala, India, after being banned in China. The term “Sikyong” means the head of the Tibetan government-in-exile. He has previously served as a Tibetan Member of Parliament and held the role of Speaker.

This is possibly the first time the Tibetan exile leadership has congratulated Nepal’s newly elected Prime Minister. Earlier, Dalai Lama had sent a congratulatory message to interim Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
