Mar 26, Kathmandu - Nepali Communist Party (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has strongly criticized the report by the Gauri Bahadur Kari Commission, calling it "regrettable" and "irresponsible." Oli described the report as a deliberate attempt to cause mental stress and accused it of being characterized by gross negligence, character assassination, and hateful politics.
"Ours is an extremely condemnable and unfortunate report that seeks to defame and spread hatred. Is this the behavior of someone who should be the Prime Minister? What level of misconduct is this?" Oli questioned.
He further stated that the report unfairly targets the UML party and was prepared with bias. "We had already expressed doubt about the authenticity of the report. It has recommended criminal investigations against the then Prime Minister and UML Chairman, despite the fact that they were not even present at the scene," Oli added.
Oli also raised concerns about ongoing violence, questioning, "People are still being murdered. Who will take responsibility for these killings? Some are dead, and yet no one is held accountable. If so many people are killed, will the Prime Minister be responsible? How many deaths must occur before the Prime Minister is held accountable—18 or 19?"
He dismissed the credibility of investigations conducted by individuals already serving as judges or high-ranking police officials, describing them as "completely baseless" and accusing the commission of "gross negligence."
In his address, Oli emphasized the need for responsible and effective leadership during challenging times. "We are working for the country and its people. We will surely succeed," he affirmed.
He also criticized those seeking to create instability through divisive politics, alleging that efforts to destabilize the nation were supported by various actors. "They have used hate politics and propaganda, including false and obscene campaigns, to target us," Oli claimed.
Oli called on party members to adhere to discipline and uphold the party's principles. He urged members to avoid engaging in misconduct and chaos, stressing, "Our party is the most progressive, revolutionary, and disciplined. No other party is as disciplined as ours. Therefore, I request everyone to follow the discipline."
Finally, Oli indicated that the party would decide parliamentary leadership roles based on merit, rather than personal requests. "The party evaluates everyone based on work and responsibility. These positions are not given upon request but earned through performance," he concluded.
