Mar 23, Kathmandu - Women students in Kabul, Afghanistan, have jointly appealed for the reopening of schools and educational institutions that remain closed due to the ban imposed by the Islamic Emirate. The students have urged authorities to lift restrictions and provide educational opportunities for girls and women.
Expressing deep disappointment, the students highlighted that their future is at risk because they are unable to access education. They emphasized the importance of continuous access to learning facilities to secure their personal and societal development.
Their plea comes at a time when international organizations and human rights groups have strongly criticized Afghanistan’s recent restrictions on girls’ education. The ban has drawn global attention and condemnation, with advocates demanding the immediate reopening of schools and universities for female students.
Women rights activists have described the restrictions as a violation of fundamental human rights. They stressed that opening educational institutions is vital for the progress and well-being of Afghan society and called for urgent action to restore access to education.
Following political changes in Afghanistan, a broad ban on girls' education was implemented, resulting in the closure of many schools and universities across the country. Human rights organizations have repeatedly emphasized that access to education is a basic human right and warned that depriving girls of this right could have long-term adverse effects on Afghan society.
