Mar 23, Kathmandu - Iran has announced that there are no disruptions in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, assuring that maritime traffic continues without hindrance. The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday, stating that necessary security measures have been implemented in response to the ongoing tensions in the region.
The ministry reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global energy supplies. Despite recent military escalations by the United States and Israel in the Gulf region, Iran emphasized its right to self-defense, stating it has taken action against aggressors, including attacks on American military bases and installations.
According to the official statement, ships involved in or supporting hostile activities against Iran are being barred from passing through the Strait. However, non-hostile vessels from other nations can still transit safely in coordination with Iranian authorities, provided they are not involved in any anti-Iran activities.
Iran called for an end to external military interventions to establish lasting peace and stability in the region. The country also urged the United States and Israel to cease their activities and respect Iran’s legitimate interests.
Historically, the region has seen escalations, including joint attacks by Israel and the United States on Iranian cities, which resulted in casualties among high-ranking officials, including Iran’s top leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has previously responded with missile and drone strikes on Israeli and American bases in the Middle East.
As tensions persist, Iran maintains its stance that regional stability depends on ending foreign military actions and respecting Iran’s sovereignty.
