Mar 22, Kathmandu - The true circumstances surrounding the death of Inisha BK, the 16-year-old girl from Surkhet allegedly murdered after a sexual assault, remain unclear as investigations have yet to reach a definitive conclusion.
Inisha's family and relatives continue to demand justice, asserting that she was murdered following a gang rape. Despite their pleas, her body has been at Karnali Regional Hospital's morgue for over two weeks.
Authorities initially launched an investigation immediately after the incident, and officials have assured that the case will be resolved soon. To uncover the truth, police have collected samples from the victim and the accused, including mobile phones and biological samples for forensic testing. Surkhet District Police Office's Deputy Superintendent Mohanjung Budhathapa explained that samples have been sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory for toxicological and biological analysis. The results are expected to shed light on the case.
While statements from the accused have been obtained, they deny involvement in the crime. One suspect reportedly confessed that he had been in a romantic relationship with Inisha for two years and admitted to having physical relations, claiming that Inisha lost consciousness due to bleeding.
According to the suspect’s statement, friends who were present assisted in taking Inisha to the hospital after she fainted. CCTV footage shows only Inisha and a 16-year-old boy leaving the scene around 6 a.m. The veracity of these statements will be confirmed through polygraph tests, which have been dispatched from Nepalgunj. The police indicate that the investigation is ongoing across various angles, but conclusive findings are pending the arrival of forensic reports.
The family and relatives of Inisha, a student at Usha Bal School in Surkhet, are increasingly pressuring authorities, expressing doubts about the fairness of the investigation. They fear that those responsible for her gang rape and murder may evade justice. The District Police Office has completed an initial investigation, after which a team from the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) traveled to Birendranagar to gather further evidence.
Post-mortem reports indicate that Inisha died due to heavy bleeding following sexual assault. Police have arrested four individuals, including the 16-year-old boy suspected of being her lover, and have filed cases of forcible rape and murder. The incident occurred on the evening of Falgun 23, when Inisha was found dead in a community forest.
Inisha, originally from Gurbakot, Surkhet, was residing in Birendranagar at the time of her death. Authorities continue to investigate the case thoroughly, with forensic results awaited to determine the full truth behind this tragic incident.
