Students Protest in Birgunj as Exams Postponed

Mar 22, Kathmandu - Students at the Hari Khetan Multiple Campus in Birgunj are angry after the exams scheduled to be held from Monday were postponed at the last minute.

More than 3,000 students, who had reached the campus to take the exams, staged a sit-in protest after seeing the notice of 'exam postponement'.

Students also held a protest rally off campus, carrying slogans like 'politics cannot be done on our future' and 'exams cannot be stopped due to internal disputes'.

As the agitation intensified, students burnt tires and demonstrated at Ghantaghar Chowk in Birgunj. The main road was blocked on both sides due to the protest, bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

A large number of police have been deployed to control the situation. After attempts were made to vandalize some places during the protest, a scuffle broke out between the police and the students. The police have also taken some students under control to control the situation.

Meanwhile, it is said that the problem arose due to a misunderstanding between the campus administration and the teachers' union. The exams have been postponed after the professors' union announced an indefinite strike, saying the 16-point demands submitted to the management committee on Falgun 3 were not addressed.

Campus professor Dilip Kumar said, "We had given an ultimatum until the 7th, but the management committee showed no interest in our demands. We are forced to go on an indefinite strike from today."
